Neighbors,
In recent weeks we have had instances of neighbors mowing vegetation on HOA and City property without permission. Please do not do this under any circumstances. The property owners in question did ask about this ahead of time and we greatly appreciate that. Please keep in mind that the HOA Board is made up of volunteers from the neighborhood who are also managing busy work/family lives. It can take a while for us to adequately research your request. We also often rely on the advice of subject matter experts from the City of Cedar Falls and State of Iowa to help us make informed decisions. This can take quite a bit of time.
Our number one priority regarding the water retention pond is to reduce the long-term costs of ownership. Controlling erosion around the pond is the best way to do this. The HOA owns approximately 30 feet of shoreline around the pond and per the guidance of the City of CF and the Iowa DNR, we want to maintain dense natural vegetation along the shoreline to slow the rate at which the pond silts in. The cost of dredging the pond will be in the hundreds of thousand dollars range. The aesthetics of the pond are a secondary concern.
In order to utilize the pond for recreation, the board does mow a path around the pond as well as authorize property owners to mow a small path from the edge of their respective property line to mowed path. See example below. Please do not modify the HOA or City property in any other way.
